Agh well that’s that out of the way for another year. Christmas day is only twenty four hours but how often do you spend all day with your relatives or family? Never has footy been so welcome!
Nonetheless there are positives to be had. Thanks to yesterday I am now the proud owner of a Liverpool FC cereal bowl! This was by no means the most expensive present I was “gifted” with but the one that will probably get the most use!
Despite the build up to the day of socks and turkey, news still dribbles through. The latest January rumour concerns Jermaine Pennant and a move to Real Madrid. Seems we have accepted an offer however Pennant is still in the process of agreeing his terms which, if the figures quoted are correct, could be a problem. I guess Liverpool will try and push for this deal as hard as possible as Pennant is out of contract in the summer? Madrid is a marked contrast to the other clubs Pennant has been linked with. These include Wigan, Stoke and Blackburn however, perhaps he’d be better off going there if he really wants the first team football that has been denied him at Anfield recently.
So today we see the visit of Bolton which seems to be a traditional holiday fixture now. I seem to recall us playing them around this time for the last two years. Rumour is that Torres could return although if he is named in the squad, I can’t believe he will be thrown straight into the action. Will he be available? Sammy Lee wasn’t giving much away..
“There was no way that he could have been ready for Arsenal but, in terms of the Christmas period, then I will just say that his rehab is coming on well. Such is the quality and class of ¬Fernando that when he is not there he is clearly going to be missed. So when he is back, ready and available for us again, he will be a great addition to the squad.”
You’re such a tease Sammy! However, this is obviously good news and I guess although Torres has been injured, the positive side is that he might benefit from the extra time out and come back stronger having blown away any post Euro 2008 tiredness.
Prediction? Bolton appear to going through something of an upsurge in form but, with three draws in three games at home we desperately need to stop the rot and I take us to do that to the tune of two goals to nil. Now, where are the Crunchy Nut Corn Flakes?
